12 Things about me
I’m completely addicted to Galaxy Caramel chocolate from the UK. It’s my all-time favorite sweet.
Speaking of the UK, I love visiting there. Because of my fondness for it, I’ve started a teapot & teacup collection. I have everything from funky to ornate.
I’m a ridiculous bibliophile. Some of my favorite authors are JRR Tolkein, JK Rowling, Jane Austen, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Fredrik Backman, Harlan Coben, Orson Scott Card, James Baldwin, Stephanie Butland, Jennifer Egan, Brandon Sanderson, Jonas Jonasson, John Green, Jack Carr, Alexandria Warwick, Terry Pratchett, Neil Gaiman, and Katherine Center. Yes, that’s a wide mix. I’m very diverse in my reading moods.
I’m that girl who has a witty movie line, song lyric, or TV quote for pretty much every conversation. I’m waiting for a way to turn that talent into serious money.
I am the most organized yet messy painter you will ever meet. The neat freak in me has to have everything in the right place when I’m creating. But the mess in me flings paint onto every clothing item I own and into my hair. Thus the reason I own no fancy clothes. This translates in writing, as well. I start off as a half-cocked pantser, but eventually need to plot out everything so my inner-pantser becomes cohesive.
My all-time favorite musical is Les Miserables. I adore the movie version with Hugh Jackman. I’ve yet to watch it without crying.
I have a not-so-secret desire to have a two-story library, complete with ladders, a fire place, and leather-bound tomes. For now, I have a very lovely office/library that gives off vintage, British cottage vibes. I adore it.
Even though I no longer live in the Dallas area, I am still an avid fan of Dirk Nowitzki (regardless of his retirement), Luka Dončić, and the Dallas Mavericks . I love that, despite Dirk’s and Luka’s all-star talent, they stay humble. You can tell that they love what they do. I’m drawn to passion like that.
In 2011, I almost died from cheering said Mavericks on as they won the NBA championship. (Sounds absurdly fictitious, but still true.) I’m unbelievably thankful for every day and every opportunity since.
I used to teach junior high students theatre. I wrote two musicals/plays for them to perform. The first, Oracle Springs, was a magical world where gumdrops rained from the sky. The second, Haven’s Finest, involved a superhero school and the value of teamwork.
I get inspired by loads of different artists. Currently, some of my top favorites are: Van Gogh (always), Richard Avedon, J M W Turner, Edward Hopper, Georges Seurat, Leonid Afremov, Dorothea Lange, Banksy, Edvard Munch, Robert Frank, Claus Oldenburg, and Picasso.
I’m inspired by a wide range of music. Whenever Clair de Lune or Puccini’s Nessun Dorma comes on, though, I have to pause what I’m doing, close my eyes and take it in.
